Proofreading
Why do I need a proofreader?
 |
After
all, I’ve
read through my work, and I’ve used spellcheck. Bad news… spellcheck
is not the answer to all your prayers. It will pick up thier,
but not their when it’s the wrong there! And as for its
and it’s – spellcheck is as confused as you probably are
by now. For careful, thorough and accurate proofreading of your work, let a
pair
of
human eyes do the job – a fresh pair. The trouble with reading your own
work is that you know what you want it to say and tend to read the sense rather
than what is actually on the page. Use and
give your document it’s, sorry its, best possible chance! |
Our proofreading services
Proofreading/Light Edit
This involves careful reading of your document(s), checking the accuracy of the following:
spelling
punctuation
grammar
correct use of capital letters
layout
flow (readability)
consistency (headings, lists, page numbers etc).
You will be sent two versions
of your file. In the first “working file”,
changes are highlighted and explained using Microsoft Word’s tracking,
and you are free to accept or reject any of these changes. Any ambiguous text
is highlighted in a different colour. A query list, noting any possible ambiguities
or points which might require clarification, will also be sent in a separate
document. In the second “show” copy of your file, tracking is removed
and all changes have been accepted.
Website Checking
The Internet is one of
the most effective and speedy ways to get your message across. However, a
browse through only a few websites will show that many
are riddled with errors. Our checking service will proofread your website,
highlighting errors of spelling, grammar, punctuation, readability and
consistency. On the Internet your message goes out to the world. Don’t
create the wrong impression with avoidable errors.
For
documents that require more than a basic proofread, see our writing
services section. |
